Early Literacy PDF Print

It’s never too early for storytime. Early literacy and reading starts at birth, so our programs do, too!
Our programs incorporate the five early literacy practices: talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing.  Using these practices as a base, our early literacy team crafts our programs to develop a lifelong love of the library and reading.

Each program is carefully designed with consideration to the developmental needs of each age group. With that in mind, we ask that your child attend the program intended for his or her age. Once your child reaches the age threshold for that program, he or she can move to their new, more advanced group. If you are not sure which program is best for your child, please ask.
We look forward to getting to know you and your child!

For library programs designed to build early literacy skills, contact Youth Services at (224) 543-1486 or signup for our quarterly Early Literacy email newsletter.  Our current Early Literacy program calendar can be found here.

Looking for some catchy songs and fingerplays to share with your favorite little one? The Vernon Area Public Library Youth Services librarians have enjoyed recording some of our favorite songs, fingerplays, rhymes and read alouds, perfect for sharing.
